Department of Georgian Language and Literature

In the study of Literary movements  and texts at the upper level of education, in addition to Georgian literature, great attention is paid to the study of world literature, comparative analysis of texts. When analyzing texts, it is important to cite parallels from world literature. The department constantly takes care to introduce the student to the external literature of the program in order to give the student a better view of the literary eras, literary genres and different styles of writing.

We think that these words accurately reflect the spirit of the Department of Georgian Language and Literature at UG School. The sea of information that a student receives from literature should be used in life and, moreover, this knowledge should shape his moral life. Our student should get knowledge about life from literature, knowledge about how a person can have a right and harmonious relationship with the world, knowledge that evil is meaningless, that goodness is the beginning of everything, that you can receive all goodness only by sending positive energies into the cosmos, that you learn the laws of the universe through literature, which you should use in everyday life.

We try to teach words and values so that they are not direct preachings of pseudo-morality. We believe that values, in some invisible, powerful way, should be understood in the heart of the student and take their place forever, and this happens, precisely, with the help of literature. Students will see many things in life after school and during time they will have to draw a parallel between what we say and what actually exists… that is why each teacher takes care that the students of our school lived through literature, that literature be a part of their lives, and that they learn that here, in the sea of literature, they seek answers to the questions of life.

We teach that the study of literature must make one a cosmopolitan human being, a world citizen. We draw students' attention to the topic of folk stories, that lots of pearls can be found in the folklore and literature of the peoples of the world.

Literature is the pulse of an era. Therefore, we try to make literature lessons respond to the challenges of the modern era.

In the lesson of Georgian Language and Literature, the seeds of humanism are "sown", here the child is formed as a citizen, not only of his own country, but also of the world. We are trying to turn Vazha-Pshavela's letter "Cosmopolitanism and Patriotism" into their desk letter.

It is important not only to understand the text, the story and the stories of the characters while learning, but also to learn the most important words that have endured for centuries and will continue to endure that make them a tolerant citizen.

With these words of Vaja we teach children religious tolerance and try to keep each student away from the threat of religious fanaticism so prevalent around us.

Spelling and Orthography:

Along with literature it is important to study the norms of language. Love and respect for your own language. We teach each student that they need to study grammatical norms for correct speech and spelling.

Argumentative Essay:

We teach students the art of arguing correctly, reasoning their own point of view, and at the same time respecting and accepting a different point of view. We write argumentative essays on the problems of an era. We try to make the topics of the essays that which concerns the society: problems of education, technology and nature, gender equality, religious tolerance, etc.
